MILLENNIALS DO NOT HAVE COOTIES!

Recently I had the opportunity to attend various networking events where the topic of millennials has been a hot button item. Upon the mention of millennials many senior management members tend to snub at the idea of welcoming them into their workforce.

Well rest assured millennials do not have cooties!

While some might dispute their work experience, radical ideas, or even commitment to an employer, millennials may truly be the edge that your company needs to get ahead.  In a world of ever changing technology and trends, millennials offer outside of the box thinking, and the ability to recognize and adapt to the changes necessary to drive the competition and increase your chances of success.

Millennials in the work force tend to look for recognition, feedback, fast paced career growth, collaboration, and the opportunity to make animpact in their community. They want to be a part of something bigger, to be heard, to make a difference, and strive in a family like atmosphere.

They are a purpose driven generation. According to Forbes Magazine (April, 2017), 76% of millennials would leave a job if they felt unappreciated, yet only 54% of senior management believes it to be a common practice for employees to quit a job due to lack of recognition.  This is one example of the difference in the thought process that drives the gap between generation X and the millennials.

It is a fact that generation X has worked hard to build the careers and companies we have today, they are experienced, knowledgeable, successful, but some fear change, and being pushed aside for the younger generation. They worked their way from the bottom up though co-operation and consistency, doing and conforming to the ways of those that came before them.

However through collaboration, acceptance, and openness to each other’s strengths, we can begin to fill the gap between these generations, ultimately bringing each the success and fulfilling careers they desire.
